Prima Voce Emerging Artists presents Leela Subramaniam and esteemed pianist Brent McMunn at Barrett Hall, Pasadena Conservatory of Music on Wednesday, October 23rd, 2024 at 7:30pm.

Delving into the many facets of the female psyche, this recital looks potently into the ways in which female desire has often been depicted as mad. Featured texts of female poets about motherhood, isolation, heartbreak, and inner transformation, the evening includes works by Purcell, Amy Beth Kirsten, William Bolcom, Lee Hoiby, Poulenc, Tom Cipullo, and Strauss, along with the world premiere of “The Moon and the Yew Tree” by Bruce Broughton.

Count Almaviva is determined to woo Susanna, who is engaged to Figaro—a servant in the household. The betrothed will do whatever it takes to navigate the Count’s advances; and the Countess—fed up with her husband’s infidelities—joins in the chaos, too. This empathetic comedy of twists and turns features sublime musical moments, a healthy dose of irreverence, and is a joyful reminder of our shared humanity.
